SunEdison recently won an auction for 500 MW in India at a price of $0.071/kWh; at first seen as irrational, this was followed by a separate contract last month for 350 MW at the same price per kWh. India’s National Solar Mission is targeting 100 GW of solar capacity by 2022, and India’s Ministry for Energy expects to stop importing thermal coal by 2017.
